APPLICATION

The ENI-EPNP series overcurrent relays are intended as protection for power lines of locomotive traction motors. They are a functional equivalent of their electromechanical counterparts. The time characteristics and threshold settings of the relays can be customized. The device's mechanical design is adapted for installation in on-board racks and instrument cabinets, according to specific customer requirements.

DESIGN

The relay's electric circuits are built on a base plate made of an insulating material which assures resistance to environmental and operating conditions.
The base plate has the following components installed:

  • contact-free Hall effect voltage/current sensor,
  • power line input connection stud bolts,
  • 3 spring-loaded connectors for supply voltage and control signal connection,
  • electronic control system enclosure,
  • actuating relay with frame; the actuating contacts output the relay status to the vehicle control systems.

The control system enclosure guards and shields from the EM fields of the vehicle power circuit currents on the measuring input line of the relay.nThe insulating plate board features 4 x Ø7 holes for mounting the relay to its on-board rack or instrument cabinet.

OPERATION

The operation principle of the relays is similar to their older electromechanical counterparts. The relays output the overrun and underrun of current and voltage relative to the tripping thresholds.
